Build an internal assistant around approved SharePoint knowledge and test its answers under each user's access. This entry covers the standard harness. Documentation checked; tenant setup and end-to-end behavior have not been tested by IonBin.

Best for
  • Microsoft 365 teams maintaining approved SOPs in SharePoint
  • Administrators who can configure identity, knowledge access and agent publishing
Not for
  • Anonymous access to private SharePoint knowledge
  • Assuming a trial or every Microsoft 365 plan includes full publishing rights

Top use cases

  • Ground an authenticated assistant in selected SharePoint sites source ↗
  • Connect an agent to an existing MCP server using supported authentication source ↗

In depth

Licensing comes before publishing

The trial permits building and testing but not publishing. Full capabilities, environment capacity and author access depend on the subscription and tenant configuration; do not treat the limited Teams entitlement as the standalone plan. source ↗

Knowledge-source choice matters

The integrated SharePoint source and the file/folder upload source have different limits. Select the intended method, then verify supported formats, file size and retrieval behavior in your environment. source ↗

MCP client, with conditions

The standard harness supports MCP tools and resources with generative orchestration enabled. This is separate from SharePoint knowledge grounding. source ↗

MCP connection setup

Connections use Streamable HTTP, with API key or OAuth options where authentication is needed. Power Platform data policies also govern access to MCP tools. source ↗

How to use it with AI

How Microsoft Copilot Studio connects to each AI platform: native connector or MCP, API through code the agent writes, browser control, or file upload.

Claude (incl. Claude Code) Not documented This standard-harness review establishes MCP client support, not an externally callable MCP server for the platform. Confirmed is reserved for evidence of the specific connection route. The current named integrations include plugins, skills and CLIs, so a named platform alone does not confirm MCP or a native connector. Inferred means each side documents a relevant capability, but no document describes the pairing. Code execution still needs network and credential access; file handling still needs a compatible format and transfer direction. Not documented means the records do not establish the route. IonBin has not tested these pairings. Recorded Oct 18, 2026.

To verify Tenant license, authentication, source permissions and answer/citation quality need a tenant-specific test. · Manual-authentication and list-limit details differ between Microsoft documentation pages; this entry does not prescribe either path.
