Small-business accounting from Intuit. Intuit publishes an official local QuickBooks Online MCP server (145 tools, including create, update and delete, which can be switched off) that needs your own Intuit Developer app. A hosted server is an invitation-only pilot.

Not advice

IonBin provides general information and software comparisons, not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Tax and legal rules vary by situation and jurisdiction; consult a qualified professional (CPA, enrolled agent or attorney) before acting.

AI tools can make mistakes. Verify every figure against the original documents and official IRS or state guidance before filing or signing.

Redact Social Security numbers, account numbers and EINs before uploading documents to any AI assistant, and check its data-retention settings. Upload originals only to the filing or signing software.

Best for
  • Small businesses doing their own books or working with an accountant
Not for
  • Companies needing multi-entity ERP

Top use cases

  • Read, create and update QuickBooks Online records from an MCP client such as Claude Code, through the local server source ↗
  • Import customer and vendor lists from a spreadsheet source ↗

In depth

Plans

QuickBooks Online lists a free tier and Simple Start ($38/month; 1 user), Essentials ($85; 3 users), Plus ($140; 5 users) and Advanced ($340; 25 users), each shown at 50% off for 3 months or with a 30-day trial. Checked 2026-10-17. source ↗

Local MCP server

The official open-source server lists 145 tools. Writes and updates can be switched off with QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_WRITE and QUICKBOOKS_DISABLE_UPDATE. You must register your own Intuit Developer app; Intuit offers no per-user API keys. source ↗

Hosted MCP pilot

Intuit's hosted MCP server is a pilot for partners onboarded by an Intuit Solution Engineer, provided as is for testing; Intuit says it may change or charge for it later. source ↗

How to use it with AI

How QuickBooks connects to each AI platform: native connector or MCP, API through code the agent writes, browser control, or file upload.

Confirmed means both the tool's and the platform's official docs describe that route (links in the cell); IonBin has not tested every pairing. Not documented means it may work, but no official docs describe that route end to end. Checked Oct 17, 2026.
