An API is a defined way for one piece of software to request data or actions from another. In AI stacks, APIs let automations and agents read from and write to your tools without a person clicking through screens. If a tool has a good API, it can be automated; if not, you may need browser automation.
IBM defines an API as a contract that lets software access data or invoke functionality exposed by other software. An API exposes only what’s needed for a specific interaction. Most business software offers web APIs, secured with API keys or OAuth. REST is the dominant style for web APIs.
A few terms you’ll meet on vendor docs:
Design, code, host and ship sites and internal tools, with an AI editor doing most of the typing.
Hand repeat admin (receipts, logs, notices, handoffs) to workflows your agent can trigger.
Not tool-specific. See Agent-ready for connector support by tool.
Levels come from each tool's recorded, sourced compatibility. How the levels work.
