Need

I need every AI tool to know how our business works

Short answer

Put decisions, processes, customer facts and brand rules in one organised workspace that AI tools can connect to, not in people's heads, chat threads and local files. Index it, date it and set permissions. Every new assistant then starts informed, whichever model it runs on.

What it is

A context store is the shared, readable home for what your business knows. Every AI tool needs this input, and few companies have it.

How it works

  1. Choose one home: a docs workspace with an official connector, such as Notion or Google Workspace. Notion hosts a remote MCP server that reads and updates what the signed-in user can access; Google’s Workspace MCP servers are in Developer Preview (checked 2026-10-17).
  2. Structure it: a section per area, an index page per section, and dated decision logs.
  3. Feed it: meeting notes, SOPs and key customer facts, added automatically where possible.
  4. Connect it to your assistants with scoped permissions.

Benefits

  • New tools work on day one. Dan Martell argues that businesses that keep their context and workflows in one place (his example is Notion) have an advantage every time they adopt a new AI tool (view: Martell).
  • Memory lives outside the model. Christopher Penn points out that language models have no memory of their own; memory is built around them, and works best when it is indexed, like a library catalog (view: Penn). A dated, indexed store is that index.
  • Low capital cost. Ethan Mollick observes that earlier transformational technologies, such as the telephone and electrification, needed expensive complementary assets before they were productive (view: Mollick). IonBin’s take: with AI, the main investment is organising your own information.

Limits and risks

  • Upkeep. A store nobody maintains becomes a source of confident, outdated answers.
  • Over-sharing. Separate confidential areas and limit agent access.
