Question

How do I connect a business tool to my AI agent?

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 4 sources
Short answer

Check four routes, in order. First, a native connector or official MCP server, so the agent reads and acts directly. Second, a public API or CLI, used by developers or an automation hub. Third, bulk file export and import. Last, the browser. IonBin records which routes each tool supports, with sources.

What it is

This is IonBin’s own compatibility model. It is the same model behind the badges on every tool page and the Agent-ready directory.

How it works

Route What it means Who sets it up
MCP / native connector The agent reads and acts in the tool directly Anyone, in the assistant’s settings
API / CLI Programmatic access A developer, or an automation hub such as Zapier, Make or n8n
Bulk File export or import (CSV, docs) Anyone, manually or on a schedule
Browser-only No confirmed programmatic route The agent drives a browser, or a person copies the data

MCP is an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems. HubSpot and Notion, for example, host official MCP servers (checked 2026-10-17). We mark a route “yes” only when an official source confirms it. Otherwise it is “to verify”. Use-case stack pages work out the data flow between each pair of tools from these records.

Benefits

  • Pick tools that work with agents before you buy, not after.
  • Know the fallback. If a tool has no MCP route, an automation hub can usually bridge to it through its API.

Limits and risks

  • Plans gate access. APIs and connectors are often limited to higher paid tiers. Each tool page records the plan where IonBin found it; this page doesn’t list them.
  • Browser automation is fragile. It breaks when page layouts change, so treat it as temporary.
  • Status changes. Vendors add MCP servers often, and each record carries a checked-on date.
