Short answer

A CRM (customer relationship management system) is the record of every contact, company, deal and conversation. HubSpot is the example in IonBin's catalog. In an AI stack, the CRM is the system of record that agents read from and write to, so data quality matters more than ever.

What it is

A CRM stores contacts, companies, deals and activity history in one place, with pipelines for sales and tools for marketing and service. AI features now summarize records, draft emails and score leads.

How it works

  1. Capture contacts from forms, email, meetings and enrichment tools.
  2. Track deals through pipeline stages and log every touchpoint.
  3. Let automations and agents update records. HubSpot’s remote MCP server gives an MCP-compatible AI tool read and write access to CRM objects and engagements, within the scopes you grant.

Agent access and pricing (checked 2026-10-17). HubSpot says its MCP server covers contacts, companies, deals, tickets, invoices, quotes and more. You connect through a user-level app on its new Developer Platform and choose the scopes. HubSpot’s pricing page lists free tools for up to two users, with paid Starter plans from $7 per seat a month. Introductory offers for new customers change.

Benefits

  • One shared view of each customer across sales, marketing and support.
  • Reliable data makes AI summaries and forecasts useful.
  • Automations remove manual data entry.

Limits and risks

  • Bad data spreads. Bad or duplicated data spreads faster once agents write to it (see keep CRM data clean).
  • Scope write access. Grant agents only the scopes they need, and log what they change.
  • Seats add up. Per-seat pricing can jump as teams grow.
  • Plans change. This category page re-checks every 90 days, and each tool page carries its own review date.
