Automation hubs

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 9 sources
Short answer

Automation hubs such as Zapier, Make and n8n move data between apps on triggers and schedules. They bridge tools that have no native AI connector, and they make a reliable backbone under AI workflows: the hub copies and routes, and the AI interprets. All three document official MCP support.

What it is

Software that connects apps with if-this-then-that workflows. When a deal closes, add a row. Every Monday, pull payments.

How it works

A trigger (an event or a schedule) starts a fixed sequence of steps across apps through their APIs. In Dan Martell’s terms this is an automation: it runs and stops, with no self-assessment. That is a strength for dull, exact copying. Through MCP, an AI assistant can also trigger hub workflows or build new ones. Gumloop, a no-code builder for AI agents and flows, runs an official remote MCP server that MCP clients such as Claude can use to manage its agents, flows and runs; it bills in credits, with Pro from $37 a month.

How they bill (checked 2026-10-17). Zapier counts tasks, and its Free plan includes 100 a month. Make counts credits, and most actions use one. Its Free plan has 1,000 a month, and scenarios stop when credits run out. n8n counts workflow executions, however many steps each one has. The same workflow can cost very different amounts on each, so compare at your real volume (see Zapier, Make or n8n?).

Benefits

  • Reaches tools AI can’t. A hub can use an app’s API to bridge it, even when the app has no AI connector.
  • Deterministic. The same input gives the same output, which is ideal for numbers.
  • Self-hosting option. n8n can run on your own infrastructure (see the n8n tool page).

Limits and risks

  • Brittle under change. Renamed fields and changed APIs break flows, so monitor for failures.
  • Cost per run can climb at high volume, especially with step-based billing.
  • Running out stops work. When a plan’s allowance is used up, flows can pause until you add more.

Best-fit stacks

Stack 06

Ops & admin automation

Hand repeat admin (receipts, logs, notices, handoffs) to workflows your agent can trigger.

Stack 02

Business data & reporting

Pull numbers from the systems you already use into one place an agent can analyze and explain.

Stack 03

Sales, CRM & outreach

Find the right accounts, enrich them, and keep every deal in one CRM, with an agent doing the busywork.
