Question

How do I connect Claude to my business tools?

Verified Oct 16, 2026 Review by Jan 14, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

Use connectors. In the Claude apps, add a built-in connector or a custom connector that points at a remote MCP server reachable from the internet, then sign in. In Claude Code, add servers with claude mcp add. ClickUp, monday.com, PostHog, Semrush, Railway and GitHub all document MCP servers.

What it is

Connectors let Claude read from and act in other apps. Built-in connectors cover common services; custom connectors use the Model Context Protocol (MCP), so any vendor with a remote MCP server can plug in.

How it works

  1. In the Claude apps: open connector settings, pick a listed connector or add a custom one with the vendor’s MCP server URL, then complete the sign-in. Anthropic notes the server must be reachable from the internet.
  2. In Claude Code: run claude mcp add --transport http <name> <url> for a remote server, then authenticate.
  3. Check what the vendor documents. ClickUp, monday.com, PostHog, Semrush, FactSet, Railway and GitHub publish Claude or Claude Code setup steps (see each tool’s “How to use it with AI” table on IonBin).
  4. Start read-only where the server allows it, then add write access once you trust the workflow.

Benefits

  • Claude can answer from live data (tasks, analytics, SEO data) instead of pasted exports.
  • One standard (MCP) instead of a custom integration per tool.
  • Permissions follow the signed-in user, so Claude sees only what you can see, unless a connector uses a shared credential such as an API key, which gives everyone that credential’s access.

Limits and risks

  • Plans (checked 2026-10-16): custom connectors using remote MCP are available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans; Free is limited to one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner or Primary Owner (or, on Enterprise, a role with library access) adds the connector, then each member connects individually.
  • Write access means real changes. Use approvals and read-only modes where offered.
  • Tool output can carry prompt-injection attempts; see protecting agents from prompt injection.
