Check estimated-tax arithmetic with Wolfram in Claude
Ops & admin automation · Business data & reporting · checked 2026-10-17
Connect Wolfram to Claude over MCP and use it for the arithmetic in a quarterly estimated-tax worksheet you fill in from the official IRS form. Wolfram computes; it does not decide what you owe.

Goal
Get exact arithmetic on a worksheet you already filled in, instead of trusting a chat model’s mental math.

Not advice
IonBin provides general information and software comparisons, not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Tax and legal rules vary by situation and jurisdiction; consult a qualified professional (CPA, enrolled agent or attorney) before acting.
AI tools can make mistakes. Verify every figure against the original documents and official IRS or state guidance before filing or signing.
Redact Social Security numbers, account numbers and EINs before uploading documents to any AI assistant, and check its data-retention settings. Upload originals only to the filing or signing software.
“Free” offers come with conditions: check who qualifies and what state filing costs before you start. IRS Direct File is discontinued for the 2026 season with no relaunch date; see IRS Free File for eligible filers.

Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.
Human approval
You decide what to pay. Wolfram and Claude only check arithmetic.
Watch out for
Arithmetic can be right while the inputs are wrong. Inputs come from your documents and IRS instructions.
Starter prompt
Goal: Get exact arithmetic on a worksheet you already filled in, instead of trusting a chat model’s mental math. Tools involved: Wolfram, Claude. Your part: computes the worksheet arithmetic exactly when claude calls it; lays out each line with the computed value and flags lines that don’t reconcile. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.

Wolfram: pairing not named in vendor docs
Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.
What we checked
Wolfram Cloud MCP is at https://agenttools.wolfram.com/mcp. Wolfram says it costs nothing to use and needs no authentication. Wolfram documents setup for Claude desktop and web, ChatGPT, Codex and other clients.
Wolfram Local MCP is also listed by Wolfram. We didn’t check its requirements or cost; the cloud server is enough for worksheet arithmetic.
What it does here. Claude sends each calculation to Wolfram and reports the exact result. The figures you type in come from your own records and the official IRS worksheet. Neither tool decides what you owe.
Set it up
Fill in the IRS estimated-tax worksheet for the year yourself, line by line.
Add the Wolfram Cloud MCP server to Claude.
Paste the worksheet lines (no names or SSNs) and ask Claude to compute each line with Wolfram, showing the formula and the result.
Compare each value with your worksheet. Where they differ, find the line that’s off before trusting either.
Decide on payments yourself, or with a CPA or enrolled agent.
