SEO and AI-visibility tools

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 5 sources
Short answer

SEO tools measure how a site appears in search and suggest fixes; newer AI-visibility features track how brands show up in AI answers. Google Search Console (free) and Semrush are in IonBin's catalog, and Semrush documents an MCP server. Treat AI-visibility numbers as directional, because AI answers vary between runs.

What it is

SEO tools report rankings, traffic, technical issues and backlinks. Google Search Console shows how Google itself sees your site. Commercial suites add competitor data and, increasingly, AI-answer tracking.

How it works

  1. Verify your site in Search Console to see queries, clicks and indexing issues.
  2. Use a suite for keyword research, competitor gaps and audits.
  3. For AI answers, run a fixed set of prompts on a schedule and track mentions, not exact positions.

Checked 2026-10-17. Semrush’s pricing page lists AI Visibility, Prompt Research and AI Brand Sentiment features; check plan availability there. Its MCP server (mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp) gives agents SEO and Trends API data plus read-only project data, and consumes API units.

Benefits

  • Find and fix technical problems that block indexing.
  • Spot content gaps against competitors.
  • Early signal on brand presence in AI answers.

Limits and risks

  • AI answers vary widely: in a SparkToro and Gumshoe study, fewer than 1 in 100 runs gave the same list of brands (SparkToro). Precise AI rank numbers overstate certainty, and IonBin hasn’t reviewed any vendor’s methodology.
  • Google states that AI features have no special optimization requirements beyond normal SEO best practices, and counts their traffic inside Search Console’s Web search type (see AI features).
  • Third-party traffic estimates are modeled, not measured.
  • Plan names, prices and feature limits change often. This category page re-checks every 90 days; each tool page carries its own review date.
