Starter prompt

Goal: Start writing from what you already read and marked. Tools involved: Readwise, Claude, Notion. Your part: supplies highlights and reader documents through the remote readwise mcp server; drafts an outline with each point linked to its highlight; saves the outline as a page through notion’s mcp server. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.

What we checked (2026-10-17)

  • Readwise MCP is a remote server at mcp2.readwise.io/mcp. Its tools include readwise_search_highlights, readwise_list_highlights, reader_search_documents and reader_list_documents, plus tools to create and update highlights.
  • Plan requirement. The MCP page doesn’t name a plan. Readwise is Lite at $5.59 or Full at $9.99 a month billed annually, with a 30-day trial. Reader appears in the plan comparison, so check that your plan covers the Reader documents you want the agent to search.
  • Notion MCP can create pages, so the outline lands where you write.

Set it up

  1. Save and highlight articles in Reader as you read.
  2. Ask Claude to search your highlights on the topic and group them into an outline. Have it quote each highlight and link back to its source.
  3. Save the outline to Notion.
  4. Write the piece yourself and check each quote against the original article before publishing.
