Customer support AI

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

Customer support AI answers routine questions in chat or email, drafts replies for agents and routes the rest to people. Intercom's Fin is the example in IonBin's catalog. Results depend on the quality of your help content and on a clear hand-off to humans.

What it is

Support AI is a model connected to your help center, past conversations and sometimes account data. It answers customers directly or assists human agents with drafts and summaries.

How it works

  1. Connect knowledge sources: help articles, policies, saved replies.
  2. Set rules for what the AI may answer, when it must hand off, and what actions it may take.
  3. Review conversations and fill content gaps the AI exposes.

Pricing (checked 2026-10-17). Intercom lists Essential at $19, Advanced at $85 and Expert at $132 per seat a month, and charges for its Fin AI Agent from $0.99 per Fin outcome. Its MCP server, for AI agents reading Intercom data, covers US and EU workspaces.

Benefits

  • Faster first responses, around the clock.
  • Human agents spend time on complex or sensitive cases.
  • Gaps in documentation become visible.

Limits and risks

  • Wrong answers cost trust; restrict the AI to sourced content (see hallucination).
  • Customers should know when they are talking to AI and how to reach a person. The European Commission says the AI Act requires people using chatbots to be told they are interacting with a machine, with transparency rules coming into effect in August 2026.
  • Per-outcome pricing can be hard to forecast; model it on last quarter’s ticket volume.
  • Plan names, prices and feature limits change often. This category page re-checks every 90 days; each tool page carries its own review date.
