Answer engine optimization is the work of making your brand and content easy for AI answer engines to find, understand, trust and cite. It builds on SEO basics (crawlable, clear, helpful pages) and adds attention to what third-party sources say about you. Results are hard to measure precisely because AI answers vary.
AEO, also called generative engine optimization (GEO), targets AI-written answers in tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google’s AI features, rather than only blue-link rankings. IonBin uses both terms. They describe the same work.
Ross Simmonds suggests a simple version of step 3: run about 20 key prompts across ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, log the domains they mention, and earn mentions on the ones that repeat. That’s a practitioner method with no published results, so treat it as a view.
