Question

What should we do when AI gets facts about our brand wrong?

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

Find where the wrong answer comes from. If it's your own pages, fix unclear or contradictory content; if it's third-party sources, correct them through outreach, profiles or PR. Make the right answer clear, consistent and corroborated across your footprint, then re-run the same prompts to see if it sticks.

What it is

This addresses wrong prices, outdated products, wrong founders or confused positioning in AI answers. The approach below follows a method described by one practitioner (view: Aleyda Solís).

How it works

  1. Ask several engines the questions that produce the error and note cited sources.
  2. Split sources into your own pages and third-party pages.
  3. Own pages: fix contradictions and state the facts plainly. Third parties: request corrections or update profiles you control.
  4. Re-test the same prompts across models over the following weeks.

Benefits

  • Targets the actual cause instead of guessing.
  • Improves accuracy for human readers too.
  • Creates a record of corrections for future checks.

Limits and risks

  • Updates can take weeks to show up in AI answers (view: Lily Ray).
  • Some engines do not show sources, which makes diagnosis harder.
  • There’s no formal correction form to rely on. IonBin found no documented channel for correcting brand facts in the engines it checked (checked 2026-10-17); fixing the sources is the practical route.
  • Google notes that recrawling can take from days to months after you change a page.
  • You cannot force third parties to change content.
