Give every AI tool your brand context

Marketing content & social · SOPs & process documentation · checked 2026-10-17

Keep your brand book, voice rules, offers and visual identity in one place any AI platform can read: a Notion workspace through Notion MCP, a Canva Brand Kit through the Canva MCP server, or a plain Markdown context folder in GitHub (the ICM pattern). Apex is in private beta, and the ICM author’s cloud workspace is rolling out gradually, VIP members first.

Goal

Stop re-explaining your brand in every chat. Put voice, offers, audience and visual identity where Claude, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Grok Bot and others can read them.

Connects through: MCP

Steps

#WhoWhat happensHowStatus
1Notion Holds the written brand book: voice, offers, audience, product facts and do/don’t lists
After you authorize it, the client can read and update anything you can access in that workspace; there are no separate MCP scopes.
MCP Confirmed · source ↗
2Canva Holds visual identity in a Brand Kit (logos, colors, fonts); the Canva MCP server can access brand kits and templates
The connector works on every Canva plan, including Free. Brand Templates need a paid plan, and team admins can turn the connector off.
MCP Confirmed · source ↗
3GitHub Holds a versioned context folder: numbered stage folders with Markdown instructions and reference files (voice, design rules), per the open, MIT-licensed ICM method
Coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity) can also open the folder locally.

4Your AI platform Reads the relevant context before drafting: brand rules as constraints, the brief as input AI platform Confirmed
5You Review drafts, and update the source files (not just the output) when the same correction keeps coming up Human step Confirmed

Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.

Human approval

You own the brand files. Agents read them; changes to the brand book go through you, or through a pull request you approve.

Watch out for

Keep the human approval step: You own the brand files. Agents read them; changes to the brand book go through you, or through a pull request you approve.

Starter prompt

Goal: Stop re-explaining your brand in every chat. Put voice, offers, audience and visual identity where Claude, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Grok Bot and others can read them. Tools involved: Notion, Canva, GitHub. Your part: holds the written brand book: voice, offers, audience, product facts and do/don’t lists; holds visual identity in a brand kit (logos, colors, fonts); the canva mcp server can access brand kits and templates; holds a versioned context folder: numbered stage folders with markdown instructions and reference files (voice, design rules), per the open, mit-licensed icm method. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.

Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.

Three public options

  1. Notion + Notion MCP. Best when the brand book is already written and non-technical teammates edit it.
  2. Canva Brand Kit + Canva MCP. Best for visual identity. Canva’s MCP server lists brand-kit and template access among its tools. The connector works on every Canva plan, including Free; searching Brand Templates needs a paid plan, and autofilling them needs Canva Enterprise.
  3. A context folder in GitHub (ICM style). Interpretable Context Methodology is an open, MIT-licensed method by Jake Van Clief and David McDermott. Numbered folders are stages, and plain Markdown files carry the instructions and context for each step, so one agent reads the right files at the right moment. Because it’s plain files in Git, it works with any model and keeps a history.

You can combine them: words in Notion or GitHub, visuals in Canva.

Dedicated products (limited access)

  • Apex describes itself as an AI operating system with persistent, “compounding” memory. Its FAQ says it is self-hosted (it runs on your infrastructure) and in private beta with a waitlist. No pricing is published.
  • ICM cloud workspace. In an August 6 Clief Notes post, ICM co-author Jake Van Clief announced a platform for putting ICM folders and “second brains” in the cloud. He said access is rolling out gradually, VIP members first, and commenters describe it as an alpha. His Substack separately lists EdubaWare, “my AI research platform”, as a perk for paid subscribers. The post doesn’t name the product, so we haven’t confirmed they’re the same, and we found no product pricing page.

We’ll revisit both when they’re generally available.

Access and permissions

Notion MCP has no separate scopes. Once you authorize a client, it can read and update anything you can access in the selected workspace, and it may send what it reads to systems outside Notion. Connect only clients you trust. Workspace owners manage connected clients under Settings → Notion MCP. Limiting which clients members can connect needs the Enterprise plan.
