Payments and billing

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Jan 15, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

Payment platforms take card and bank payments, run subscriptions and send invoices. Stripe is the example in IonBin's catalog. For automation, the key feature is webhooks: events like 'payment succeeded' can start onboarding, update the CRM or notify the team. Keep refunds and charges behind a human check.

What it is

A payments platform processes transactions, stores customer billing details securely, and handles invoices, subscriptions, refunds and payouts. Developer platforms like Stripe expose these as APIs and events.

How it works

  1. Create products and prices, then accept payments through checkout pages, payment links or invoices.
  2. Subscribe to events with webhooks so other systems react when money moves.
  3. Connect an agent through Stripe’s MCP server. It has separate read and write tools, and OAuth lets you set different permissions for live and sandbox accounts.

Fees and agent access (checked 2026-10-17). Stripe’s US pricing page lists 2.9% plus 30¢ per successful domestic card payment, with extra percentages for manually entered cards, international cards and currency conversion. Stripe’s MCP docs say that from December 2026 the server stops accepting full-access secret keys and restricted keys without the Agent tag. Migrate to agent API keys by November 30, 2026.

Benefits

  • Payment events are a clean trigger for onboarding and fulfilment.
  • Automated invoicing and reminders cut late payments.
  • Reporting on revenue is built in.

Limits and risks

  • Mistakes cost real money. Never let an agent move funds or issue refunds without a human check. Prefer read-only access.
  • Out of scope here. Tax, compliance and dispute handling need their own review.
  • Fees vary by country and payment method, and the US figures above are a dated snapshot.
