Components / Styled React component library
HeroUI
Start with coordinated React styling while retaining a structured component API.
Understand the resource
What it is.
HeroUI supplies styled React components and a theming system. Its current v3 documentation describes a different setup from v2, including React Aria-based interaction patterns and Tailwind 4 integration. This review covers the open-source web components, not paid Pro templates or its separate native offering.
When it is useful
It is useful when a React product wants a polished common visual language without building every styled wrapper. The important decision is whether its current dependency and theme conventions fit the application you already have.
A proposed application
Put it to work.
This example illustrates a possible use. The proposed workflow and expected result are separate from the bounded checks recorded below.
Try this
Proposed workflow: create a document-review preference form with labelled checkboxes, explanatory text and a disabled option that names its prerequisite. Show a separate confirmation after preferences actually save. Test keyboard and pointer paths before adding the service request. Our evaluation used the public checkbox examples and did not persist settings.
Result to aim for
A consistent preference form with visible selection and disabled states, plus an explicit server-save and error-handling boundary.
Before you start
What you need.
- The @heroui/react 3.2.6 manifest requires React/React DOM 19 or later, Tailwind CSS 4 or later and its listed React Aria peers; verify the full peer set against your lockfile.
- Follow v3 installation and styling guidance rather than v2 snippets. The inspected package is MIT licensed; paid templates have separate terms and were not accessed.
The practical boundaries
What to watch for.
- Major-version migration can affect component names, imports, styling and peer dependencies.
- Preserve the hidden input and visible label relationship when customizing checkbox appearance.
- A disabled option does not protect a restricted operation; the server still needs to reject unauthorized requests.
Review record
What we could establish.
- Why included (2026-10-19): Adds a widely followed styled React option with current v3 maintenance and a meaningful migration decision for existing users. GitHub reported 30,961 stars for the upstream repository (heroui-inc/heroui); the sampled default-branch commit is dated 2026-10-17. This is a dated popularity/activity snapshot, not a measured growth rate or safety ranking.
- Public official documentation and declared package requirements reviewed. The example above is a proposed workflow; executed checks are listed separately below.
- Earlier selector, focus-timing and setup probes remain in the retained evidence. Final conclusions use the corrected bounded tests and keep unmet coverage explicit.
The source-review notes describe documentation and identity. The account-free evaluation below records exactly which public interaction or local fixture was checked, what happened, and what remains untested.
Check current access, terms, licensing and data handling before using a resource with your own material.
Runtime and security evaluation
What the evaluation covers.
The public checkbox changed and restored selection through Space and its visible label. A disabled example ignored synthetic Space events. No HeroUI package was installed; v2 migration, form submission and Pro assets were not tested.
Methods: Public HTTP response · Public browser sample. A completed check covers the stated sample; it is not a safety certification.
- Target
- https://heroui.com/en/docs/react/components/checkbox
- Version or capture
- Unversioned public demo observed 2026-10-19; registry snapshot @heroui/react 3.2.6 was not locally executed.
- Integrity scope
- Public document SHA-256 83e3951fce9223fb52fd8853acf1c5ac1973bd46f25719817911a49de907a09c; initial response only, not complete application integrity. Source snapshot ce90ea3ab49d58f6c428f71bfd6fe8ae2a87b960 does not identify the hosted deployment.
Test conditions
- Chrome 155.0.8059.82, 1280 x 900 desktop viewport; UTC browser context.
- Fresh temporary browser profile and context; no inherited account storage. Child environment allowed only runtime paths, with credential variables omitted.
- Public HTTPS GET/HEAD only; form submission, non-read methods, WebSockets, service workers and downloads blocked. Selected telemetry requests were blocked.
Individual checks and observations
Public sample response
passPublic HTTP response: Anonymous public GET; capture status, response-body hash and selected headers.
Observed: HTTP 200; https://heroui.com/en/docs/react/components/checkbox. Reachability only.
Keyboard selection cycle
passPublic browser sample: Focus the first documented checkbox/switch; press Space twice and inspect its checked state.
Observed: Checked false -> true -> false. No external form submitted.
Pointer selection cycle
passPublic browser sample: Click the same sample control twice and inspect state restoration.
Observed: Pointer toggled state=true; original state restored=true.
Disabled sample boundary
passPublic browser sample: Inspect a documented disabled control and try a synthetic Space key event without force-clicking or altering properties.
Observed: Disabled=true; checked unchanged=true. Programmatic events only; tab-order test not included.
Security findings and boundaries
Passive inspection of official public response headers and request hosts, declared package metadata, and the exact local fixture where stated. No exploitation, authentication, private input or backend writes.
Documented · caution
Version alignment is a real integration requirement
The captured v3 package manifest lists React 19, Tailwind 4 and multiple React Aria peers. A successful hosted demo does not show that an older application's dependency graph can accept those requirements.
Observed · info
Sampled response and request surface
The anonymous HTTPS demo response included strict-transport-security. Requests attempted 3 additional host(s), including agent.heroui.pro, api.heroui.pro, api.github.com. The guard blocked 0 request(s). Host attempts include blocked requests; this does not establish retained data or exploit resistance.
Practical advice · caution
Check the installed dependency graph separately
The registry snapshot identifies @heroui/react 3.2.6, but this review did not install or audit it. Lock and review the versions that actually enter your application; the hosted demo's success is not a dependency audit.
Practical caveats
- Major-version migration can affect component names, imports, styling and peer dependencies.
- Preserve the hidden input and visible label relationship when customizing checkbox appearance.
- A disabled option does not protect a restricted operation; the server still needs to reject unauthorized requests.
What remains untested
- Only public v3 checkbox samples were exercised. The disabled check did not establish full tab order or screen-reader announcements.
- No local bundle, v2 migration, native platform, paid asset, server rendering or application workflow was evaluated.
Security limits
- No authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, retention or backend processing was tested.
- No comprehensive source/dependency audit, vulnerability scan or security certification. Header presence or absence describes one response, not the safety of a product.
- Request guards can alter normal page behavior. Full browser, mobile, assistive-technology and performance coverage is outside this evaluation.
