Components / Component foundation
shadcn/ui
Build an owned component layer with documented starting patterns.
Understand the resource
What it is.
shadcn/ui provides composable components whose source can become part of your project. That gives a team control over visual and behavioral changes, together with responsibility for maintaining those changes.
When it is useful
You are building a React product that needs consistent forms, dialogs and navigation.
A proposed application
Put it to work.
This example illustrates a possible use. The proposed workflow and expected result are separate from the bounded checks recorded below.
Try this
Create one settings form, map its tokens to the brand, and exercise validation, focus and submission states.
Result to aim for
A maintainable component foundation and a tested first workflow.
Before you start
What you need.
- A supported project stack; review the selected registry items and dependencies.
The practical boundaries
What to watch for.
- Owning the copied source means tracking upstream fixes yourself.
- Accessible defaults can be broken by changed markup, missing labels or custom focus behavior.
Review record
What we could establish.
- Public primary documentation and the bounded account-free checks below were reviewed. The homepage alert-dialog sample opened and closed with Escape after its exit transition. The test did not install registry items into an application.
The source-review notes describe documentation and identity. The account-free evaluation below records exactly which public interaction or local fixture was checked, what happened, and what remains untested.
Check current access, terms, licensing and data handling before using a resource with your own material.
Runtime and security evaluation
What the evaluation covers.
The homepage alert-dialog sample opened and closed with Escape after its exit transition. The test did not install registry items into an application.
Methods: Public HTTP response · Public browser sample. A completed check covers the stated sample; it is not a safety certification.
- Target
- https://ui.shadcn.com/
- Version or capture
- Unversioned public page checked 2026-10-19
- Integrity scope
- sha256:b3a1393ef031ed1d26dd1b9c760daf0b8ecaeb02400b2003dd1b57b69a37d405
Test conditions
- Chromium 155.0.8059.82 on Windows; fresh temporary profile and fresh account-free contexts.
- Public HTTPS GET/HEAD requests only; telemetry/auth routes and WebSockets blocked. No account storage or credential environment variables.
Individual checks and observations
Public document and DOM
passPublic browser sample: Fresh Chromium GET, then inspect rendered controls after hydration delay
Observed: HTTP 200; 45 captured button labels; 19 inputs; 0 canvases.
Demo alert-dialog keyboard cycle
passPublic browser sample: Activate the public alert-dialog demo and dismiss with Escape
Observed: Visible dialogs opened=1, after Escape=0.
Security findings and boundaries
Passive inspection of the public response headers, requested hosts and the named browser sample. No active exploitation, authenticated permissions test or complete security audit.
Observed · caution
One dialog is a narrow accessibility sample
The observed dialog keyboard cycle succeeded. Focus order, assistive-technology announcements and the behavior of other registry items remain separate checks.
Practical caveats
- Inspect the exact registry item and dependencies before copying it, then retest the dialog inside your own layout.
- Pin and recheck the selected version or sample before adoption; the observations apply only to the scope and date shown.
What remains untested
- No CLI execution, dependency audit, full focus-trap test or screen-reader session.
- Fresh-browser restrictions can affect external assets and hydration. Initial failed selectors and limited probes remain in the evidence; they are not blanket product failures.
Security limits
- No authenticated workspace, private content, production backend permissions or data-retention verification.
- No CLI execution, dependency audit, full focus-trap test or screen-reader session.
