Get a daily Square sales summary from an AI client
Finance & bookkeeping · Business data & reporting · checked 2026-10-18
Claude reads yesterday's Square orders and payments through Square's MCP server (beta) and writes a short summary. You check it against the Square Dashboard before using the numbers.

Goal
Start the day with a quick view of yesterday's sales without opening several reports.

Not advice
IonBin provides general information and software comparisons, not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice. Tax and legal rules vary by situation and jurisdiction; consult a qualified professional (CPA, enrolled agent or attorney) before acting.
AI tools can make mistakes. Verify every figure against the original documents and official IRS or state guidance before filing or signing.
Redact Social Security numbers, account numbers and EINs before uploading documents to any AI assistant, and check its data-retention settings. Upload originals only to the filing or signing software.

Human stepConfirmed
Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.
Human approval
Numbers are checked against the Square Dashboard before anyone uses them.
Watch out for
The remote Square server only reaches production data and can call the full Square API, including writes. Grant only the scopes you need, test prompts against a Sandbox account with the local server first, and keep refunds and changes out of the conversation.
Starter prompt
Using the Square MCP server, list yesterday's completed orders and payments for each location. Give total sales, the number of orders, refunds and the split by payment type, and flag any order more than 3 times the average. Only read data. Don't create, update or refund anything.

Readiness considers the connection evidence and unresolved steps. Confirmed: documented access and the proposed steps meet the recorded requirements. MCP and API pairings require an explicit reviewed platform note; a named plugin or CLI alone does not confirm MCP. Inferred: an explicit page note describes a plausible pairing that still needs testing. To verify: a connection or step is unresolved. An API and code execution alone do not establish compatible network access, credentials or permissions. None of this is IonBin testing.
What we checked (2026-10-18)
Square MCP server. Square’s MCP server is in beta. The remote server at https://mcp.squareup.com/mcp signs in with OAuth and gives access to the Square API, including customers, orders and items. Remote instances only access production.
Sandbox testing. Square recommends testing prompts against a Sandbox account before using production. A local server, started with npx square-mcp-server start, can point at the Sandbox with an access token.
Set it up
Test the prompt with the local server against a Square Sandbox account.
Connect the remote server in Claude with the narrowest scopes your client allows.
Run the prompt each morning and compare totals with the Square Dashboard.
Use your accounting system, not the summary, for the books. Check payouts and fees there.
Pilot it on a small sample first, and keep the human step even when the output looks right. This is a proposed sequence based on documented tools, not a tested account integration.
