Keep sensitive documents out of AI chats
Ops & admin automation · Dev, web & IT · checked 2026-10-17
Store tax and legal originals in Proton Drive and team credentials in Proton Pass, and give AI tools only redacted copies. A simple habit that prevents most leaks.
Independent review. IonBin has no partnership with any tool on this page and was not paid for this page. Our evaluation is our own, based on public documentation and our research. Product names are trademarks of their owners and are used for identification only. How disclosure works.
Goal
Use AI for paperwork without exposing personal or company secrets.
Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.
Human approval
You decide what leaves the vault.
Watch out for
Check each AI provider’s data-retention settings before uploading anything.
Starter prompt
Goal: Use AI for paperwork without exposing personal or company secrets. Tools involved: Proton Pass, Claude. Your part: works only from the redacted copies. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.
Assembled from this page’s goal and steps. Paste it into your AI platform and adjust it to your situation.
No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).

Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.
What we checked (2026-10-17)
Proton Workspace. Standard is $12.99 per user per month billed yearly ($155.88 a year), and Premium is $19.99 ($239.88 a year). There’s a 14-day trial. Both include Proton Drive (1 TB or 3 TB per user) and a password manager with team vaults.
Pass access tokens. Proton Pass can share selected credentials with an AI agent. The agent has to give a reason each time it uses one, and you can monitor its activity. Proton says this is included on Pass Plus, Family, Professional and Workspace plans.
No MCP. We didn’t find a Proton MCP server for Drive.
The habit
Keep originals (tax returns, contracts, IDs) in an encrypted drive, not in chat history.
Before asking AI for help, make a copy and redact names, account numbers, addresses and signatures.
Upload only the redacted copy, and check the provider’s data-retention settings first.
If an agent needs to log in somewhere, give it one scoped credential, not your vault. Teams already on 1Password can apply the same habit there.
This isn’t legal or tax advice. Ask a professional what you must keep and for how long.
