Need

I need fast, cited research on competitors and my market

Draft · pending editorial review Verified Oct 16, 2026 Review by Apr 14, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

Use an answer engine or research agent that searches the live web and returns sources, rather than a model answering from memory. Give it a fixed brief (competitors, questions, date range), require citations and dates, and check the key claims yourself before they reach a deck.

What it is

Market research with AI has two failure modes: an AI that confidently answers from stale training data, and hours lost to manual searching. The need is current, sourced answers in minutes.

How it works

  1. Use live search. Answer engines such as Perplexity cite their sources. Google’s Gemini Deep Research agent plans and runs multi-step research and returns a detailed, cited report. xAI’s models can search the web and X when those tools are switched on.
  2. Write a fixed brief: the named competitors, the questions to answer and the date range.
  3. Require citations and dates for every claim.
  4. Store the results in your research workspace (see the Research & intelligence stack).

Benefits

  • Current. Live search avoids the knowledge cutoff problem.
  • Auditable. Every claim has a link you can check.

Limits and risks

  • Citations aren’t verification. Sources can be wrong or misread, so open the important ones.
  • Preview tools. Google says its Deep Research agent is in preview (both versions carry preview model IDs). Expect it to change.
