Ground financial research in licensed data

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Apr 15, 2027 3 sources
Short answer

For finance, IR and corporate-development work, connect your AI assistant to licensed data rather than the open web. FactSet's AI-Ready Data MCP offers 24 tools covering fundamentals, estimates, prices, ownership, M&A and transcripts, and lists clients including Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini.

What it is

General AI assistants can sound confident about numbers they’ve half-remembered. Connecting them to a licensed financial data source makes answers traceable to a real record.

How it works

  1. Check your access: FactSet says the MCP server’s tool availability and packaging depend on your firm type and your AI-Ready data tier.
  2. Connect the client: the server lives at mcp.factset.com/content/v1, and FactSet lists more than a dozen supported MCP clients, including Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini (checked 2026-10-17). FactSet’s APIs authenticate with OAuth 2.0 (its recommended option) or an API key.
  3. Ask scoped questions: “Compare consensus revenue estimates for these five companies for the next two fiscal years.”
  4. Keep the audit trail: FactSet’s changelog (versions 1.16 and 1.17) adds audit links to tool output; cite them in your work.

Benefits

  • Answers grounded in licensed, current data.
  • Screening, transcripts and supply-chain data in one conversation.
  • Less copy-paste between terminals and documents.

Limits and risks

  • FactSet doesn’t list prices on its MCP pages; access runs through a FactSet account.
  • Licensing terms govern how data can be shared; check your FactSet agreement before publishing outputs.
  • Which tools you get depends on your contract, so test the questions you need before relying on them.
  • Always verify figures used in decisions or filings.
