Need

I need to hand off a whole area of work, not just tasks

Verified Oct 17, 2026 Review by Apr 15, 2027 1 source
Short answer

Chat speeds up tasks you still own. An agent can take over a whole area, but only if it can check its own work. Pick a bounded area with clear success criteria, document the process, give the agent scoped tools and a self-check step, and review its output on a fixed schedule until it is consistently right.

What it is

Dan Martell separates two uses of AI: chat buys back a little time, while agents let you hand off whole areas of a business (view: Martell). This need is the second one.

How it works

  1. Choose a bounded area, for example inbox triage, first-line support or CRM hygiene.
  2. Define “done right” as criteria the agent can check its work against.
  3. Write the SOP (see documenting SOPs).
  4. Equip and limit the agent with connectors and scoped access (see acting safely).
  5. Build in the self-check. The agent reviews its output against the criteria and retries. In IonBin’s framing, that loop is what makes it an agent rather than a fixed automation.
  6. Review on a schedule, daily and then weekly, and widen the scope while accuracy holds.

Benefits

  • Compounding time back. The whole area leaves your desk, not just individual tasks.
  • Clearer roles. People move to exceptions and judgement calls.

Limits and risks

  • Unclear criteria produce confident mistakes. If you can’t define success, keep a human in the loop.
  • Seller framing. Martell runs a coaching business. His framing is useful, but IonBin hasn’t seen measured outcomes for whole-area delegation.
  • Access grows with scope. Every new area adds tools and data the agent can touch; review permissions each time you widen it.
