Grok is xAI's model family, used in the Grok app and the xAI API. xAI currently recommends Grok 4.7 for both code and chat. It has a 500K-token context window and a May 2026 knowledge cutoff, and it reaches real-time information only when web or X search tools are switched on.
Grok is the model family from xAI. One general model, Grok 4.7, is the default for text and code. Separate models handle images, video and voice.
On the API you call a model by name. An unversioned alias tracks the latest stable release, -latest tracks the newest release, and a dated name pins one release. Pricing has two bands: once a prompt reaches 200K tokens, the whole request is billed at the higher rate. Real-time knowledge is opt-in through server-side search tools, including search over X posts.
