Transcribe
Transcribes audio through OpenAI's API with a bundled Python script, with optional speaker labels.

01 / Task fit
Where it may help.
These are intended uses indicated by the upstream material. They are not measured outcomes.
- Transcripts of interviews and meetings
- Speaker-labelled transcripts when you have reference clips
What it is
Transcribe runs a bundled command-line script that sends audio files to OpenAI transcription models. A faster model is the default for plain text. A diarization model adds speaker labels, and you can give up to four reference clips for known speakers. It needs an OpenAI API key set locally.
Why you might use it
Use it when you need a transcript of a recording and are comfortable sending the audio to OpenAI. It tells the agent never to ask for the API key in chat and to check the output before finishing.
Put it in context.
Illustrative requests and outputs to review. These examples are separate from the recorded evaluation below.
Transcribe an interview
Example request
Transcribe interview.mp3 to plain text and save it next to the file. Flag any sections that are hard to hear.
What to look for. A text transcript and a short note on unclear passages.
Before you rely on it. Audio is sent to OpenAI, and API usage is billed to your key. Check consent before recording or uploading other people.
Label speakers in a meeting
Example request
Transcribe meeting.m4a with speaker labels, using the two reference clips I provide for Ana and Ben.
What to look for. A diarized JSON transcript with speaker segments.
Before you rely on it. Speaker labels can be wrong. Check quotes against the audio before you attribute them.
02 / Setup & access
What it asks of your environment.
Requirements
- Python with the openai package, and an OPENAI_API_KEY in the environment.
- Audio files on the machine the agent can reach.
Permissions & data access
- Reads local audio files and writes transcript files.
- Sends audio to the OpenAI API using your key.
Instructions alone do not enforce a sandbox. The agent host, connected tools and approvals determine what the skill can actually read, change or send.
03 / Things to check
Security concerns & practical limits.
These concerns follow from the reviewed sources. They describe possible exposure or required review; they are not confirmed vulnerabilities.
Review before use
Recordings leave your machine
The script uploads audio to OpenAI. Confirm that everyone recorded agreed to it and that the content may be processed by a third party.
Limits and nuances
- Source review of SKILL.md and the per-skill license only. The bundled script and API reference file were not reviewed or run.
- No audio was transcribed. No accuracy or diarization-quality result is claimed.
