Turn a Confluence meeting page into reviewed Jira work items

Ops & admin automation · SOPs & process documentation · checked 2026-10-18

Claude reads a Confluence meeting page through the Atlassian Rovo MCP server and drafts Jira work items for each action. A person checks the owners and dates before the items are created.

Independent review. IonBin has no partnership with any tool on this page and was not paid for this page. Our evaluation is our own, based on public documentation and our research. Product names are trademarks of their owners and are used for identification only. How disclosure works.

Goal

Turn agreed actions into tracked work items without retyping them.

Connects through: MCP

Steps

  1. Confluence

Returns the meeting page through the Atlassian Rovo MCP server

    MCPConfirmedSource ↗
  2. Claude

Lists each action with a suggested owner, due date and project, and marks anything unclear

    AI platformConfirmed
  3. You

Fix owners and dates, and remove actions that were only ideas

    Human stepConfirmed
  4. Jira

Creates the approved work items through the same MCP server

    MCPConfirmedSource ↗

Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.

Human approval

No work item is created until you confirm the list.

Watch out for

Every MCP call uses Rovo credits from your site's shared pool, and longer pages cost more, so point Claude at one page rather than a whole space. Meeting notes often blur decisions and ideas, so check each action before it becomes a work item.

Starter prompt

Using the Atlassian MCP server, open the Confluence page I name. List every action agreed in the meeting as a draft Jira work item, with a title, a description, a suggested assignee and a due date if the page states one. Write 'unclear' rather than guessing. Show me the list and wait for my confirmation before creating anything in Jira.

Tools in this workflow

Which AI platforms can run it

PlatformStatusWhy
Claude (incl. Claude Code) To verify Confluence: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it; Jira: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it
OpenAI Codex To verify Confluence: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it; Jira: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it
Google Antigravity To verify Confluence: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it; Jira: MCP pairing needs route-specific evidence; a named plugin or CLI does not establish it

Readiness considers the connection evidence and unresolved steps. Confirmed: documented access and the proposed steps meet the recorded requirements. MCP and API pairings require an explicit reviewed platform note; a named plugin or CLI alone does not confirm MCP. Inferred: an explicit page note describes a plausible pairing that still needs testing. To verify: a connection or step is unresolved. An API and code execution alone do not establish compatible network access, credentials or permissions. None of this is IonBin testing.

What we checked (2026-10-18)

  • Atlassian Rovo MCP server. Atlassian’s remote server at https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp covers Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket and Loom. Its examples include summarizing a planning page and creating Jira work items from meeting notes.
  • Credits. Atlassian says MCP calls use Rovo credits from the same shared pool as Rovo Chat, Studio and Agents. Cost depends on how much data a call pulls and how much reasoning it needs.

Set it up

  1. Connect the Atlassian Rovo MCP server to Claude with an account that can read the meeting space and create items in the target project.
  2. After a meeting, run the prompt above with the page title.
  3. Correct the list. Check every owner against the people who were in the meeting, and drop due dates nobody agreed to.
  4. Confirm, and let Claude create the items. Then check that they appear in the right Jira project.

This is a proposed sequence based on documented tools, not a tested account integration.
