Goal

Reduce the blast radius if an agent or its host is compromised.

Steps

#WhoWhat happensHowStatus
1NordLayer Restricts which teams and members can reach admin tools and agent hosts, with Cloud Firewall rules on a Virtual Private Gateway
Rules allow or deny traffic by source (all members, or specific teams and members) and destination; set rules before enabling the firewall.

2NordPass or 1Password Stores shared credentials in shared folders with per-person or per-group permissions
NordPass Shared Folders are on Business and Enterprise, with Can edit, Can share, Can view and Can autofill permissions; NordPass Enterprise also has an Activity Logs API for Owners and Admins.

3You Review who and what has access each month Human step Confirmed

Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.

Human approval

An admin owns access reviews.

Watch out for

Keep the human approval step: An admin owns access reviews.

Which AI platforms can run it

PlatformStatusWhy
Claude (incl. Claude Code) Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).
OpenAI Codex Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).
Google Antigravity Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).
ChatGPT Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).
Gemini Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).
Perplexity Confirmed No platform-specific connection: the steps run in the tools themselves (browser, upload or built-in).

Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.

What we checked

  • NordLayer Cloud Firewall. NordLayer lets you create allow and deny rules on a Virtual Private Gateway. Each rule has a source (all members of teams with access to the gateway, or specific teams and members) and a destination. NordLayer recommends planning and documenting the rules first and enabling the firewall afterwards. New members added to a team get that team’s rules when they connect.
  • NordPass Shared Folders are available to Business and Enterprise members. You share a top-level folder with a person or a group and choose Can edit, Can share, Can view or Can autofill; view and autofill access can also expire. NordPass Enterprise has an Activity Logs API that Owners and Admins can query.
  • 1Password is listed as an alternative vault; check its own sharing controls before you move credentials.

Set it up

  1. List every host and admin tool an agent can reach, and which people need it.
  2. Put those behind a NordLayer gateway, with firewall rules for only those teams.
  3. Move shared logins into a shared folder with the lowest permission that works, such as autofill only.
  4. Each month, remove people and agents that no longer need access.
