Cut social clips from a long video
Marketing content & social · checked 2026-10-16
Your AI platform reads the transcript and picks the strongest moments with timestamps; you cut the clips in Descript’s text-based editor and approve each one before posting.

Goal
Turn one webinar, podcast or demo into a week of short clips.
Cuts the clips with Underlord edits through the Descript MCP server, or by hand in the editor
Descript’s example prompts include “create a 60-second highlight reel”. The MCP server publishes to a Descript web link; it doesn’t list local video export.
Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.
Human approval
You approve every clip before it goes out.
Watch out for
Keep the human approval step: You approve every clip before it goes out.
Starter prompt
Goal: Turn one webinar, podcast or demo into a week of short clips. Tools involved: Descript. Your part: imports and transcribes the recording; reads the transcript and proposes 5 to 10 clips with timestamps, hooks and captions; cuts the clips with underlord edits through the descript mcp server, or by hand in the editor. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.

Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.
What we checked
The Descript MCP server connects through your Descript login and is limited to the Drive you pick when you authorize it. It can import media, edit with Underlord, organize projects, publish to a Descript web link, and export transcripts as text, Markdown, HTML, RTF or SRT. Underlord edits can use AI credits, and imports use media minutes. In team workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom connectors first.
Set it up
Connect Descript from Settings → Descript MCP (it has connect buttons for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor) or by adding its server URL to your client. Pick the Drive the assistant may use; to switch Drives later, log out of Descript on the web and reconnect.
Use a direct file link, an upload, or a Google Drive or Dropbox link. YouTube links don’t work as import sources.
If your assistant has several modes, use Chat mode; Descript says it works best there.
Review every clip and caption before posting.
