Hand coding tasks to an agent from your board
Dev, web & IT · checked 2026-10-16
A coding agent reads a task from ClickUp or a GitHub issue through MCP, makes the change in a branch, and opens a pull request for review.

Goal
Clear small engineering tasks without context-switching your team.
Confirmed means the vendor documents it (linked). It doesn't mean IonBin has tested it. AI-platform and human steps need no source.
Human approval
Nothing merges without review.
Watch out for
Keep the human approval step: Nothing merges without review.
Starter prompt
Goal: Clear small engineering tasks without context-switching your team. Tools involved: ClickUp, GitHub. Your part: holds the task and acceptance criteria; implements the change on a branch; hosts the pull request and checks. Work step by step, show me each draft or proposed change, and wait for my approval before anything is sent, published, signed, filed or changed in a live system.
Assembled from this page’s goal and steps. Paste it into your AI platform and adjust it to your situation.
ClickUp: pairing not named in vendor docs; GitHub: pairing not named in vendor docs
Computed from the MCP and API steps only: "Confirmed" needs the tool's docs to name the platform and the platform to support the connection. Browser, upload and human steps work from any platform.
What we checked
ClickUp’s MCP server works on all plans and lets an agent read tasks with their assignees, priorities and due dates. GitHub runs a remote MCP server, alongside a local version, that lets an AI tool read repositories and code and create, update and manage issues and pull requests. ClickUp’s GitHub integration is on every ClickUp plan. When a valid ClickUp task ID, written with a # prefix (for example #1abc2de), appears in a branch name, commit message or pull request, ClickUp links that activity to the task and posts a link to the task in the pull request. You attach the repository to your Workspace first. A person reviews and merges every pull request.
Set it up
Connect ClickUp’s GitHub integration and attach the repository to your Workspace.
Connect ClickUp MCP and GitHub MCP in your coding agent.
Ask the agent to read the task, create a branch whose name includes the task ID, make the change and run the tests.
Have it open a pull request with the task ID in the title so ClickUp links it.
Review, request changes if needed, and merge yourself.
