AI evaluation & quality control
Check an AI task against reviewed examples before changing the prompt, model or workflow.

Evaluation tools compare an AI system's outputs with task-specific checks. Observability tools record application behavior so failures can be investigated. promptfoo and Langfuse cover different parts of that work; choose the process and evidence you need before adding a dashboard.
This is a software category, not an announcement of an IonBin service. Evaluation asks whether a system performs an intended task acceptably. Observability captures what happened during execution so people can investigate unexpected behavior.
A small project can begin with reviewed cases and a repeatable runner. promptfoo offers a CLI and library for comparing prompts and models. Langfuse provides application tracing alongside datasets and experiments. Their overlap does not mean every project needs both.
First define the failure modes and decisions the evidence must support. Then choose how to collect cases, review answers, compare changes and record the release decision. Add production tracing when a live application produces useful examples; instrument only the data the team is permitted to retain.
A repeatable process can expose regressions that a demonstration misses. Connecting observed failures to reviewed cases helps the test collection reflect actual use.
A dashboard cannot repair an unrepresentative dataset or an incorrect reference answer. Logs may contain sensitive prompts and responses. Model graders can disagree with people, and their calls add cost.
IonBin verified the documented capabilities on October 18, 2026; it has not hands-on tested these tools. The proposed stack still needs a pilot covering data handling, meaningful failures and the intended release decision.
If migrating an existing evaluation setup, check lifecycle notices. OpenAI’s Evals platform becomes read-only on October 31, 2026 and is scheduled to shut down November 30, 2026. Preserve test cases, rubrics and results outside a retiring dashboard; the need for evaluation continues independently of that product.
