How do I find out everything an AI tool can actually do?

Short answer
Ask it directly for its tools and limits, then check the vendor's changelog, docs and connector list. AI products ship features faster than most people track them, so even experienced users find capabilities by accident. Keep a one-page cheat sheet per tool your team uses, and confirm anything important in the vendor's own docs.
What it is
AI assistants have large, mostly invisible capability surfaces: browsers, code execution, file creation, connectors, scheduled tasks. In August 2026 Simon Willison, a developer who writes about AI tools, posted that he kept finding new features of ChatGPT Work, including a browser that can take screenshots and a way to deploy web apps to Cloudflare Workers.
How it works
- Ask the tool: “List the tools you can use in this conversation, what each does and its limits.” Answers can be incomplete, so treat them as leads.
- Read the changelog or release notes monthly.
- Check the connector or MCP directory for what it can reach.
- Test one real task per new feature before telling the team about it.
- Write a cheat sheet: what the tool is for, what it can touch, what needs approval.
