Smartsheet MCP Server
Work with Smartsheet sheets and reports from an AI host through Smartsheet's regional hosted servers, on Business plans and above.
Token carries the user's full access. An API token acts with the user's full permissions. Use a dedicated account or store the token carefully.
Understand the tool
What it does.
Smartsheet's hosted MCP server connects AI hosts to Smartsheet data in a chosen region (US, EU or AU). It accepts a Smartsheet API token, or OAuth in the AI tools Smartsheet lists as supporting it.
Why use it?
Use it to ask questions about project sheets or produce status summaries without exporting data. Match the server to your data region and keep a person reviewing any changes.
A useful fit for
- Project status summaries
- Finding overdue rows
- Answering questions across sheets
From need to output
Ways to put it to work.
These are suggested workflows based on the documented capabilities. They are not recorded runtime results.
Use case 01
Weekly project status
A project manager writes a Friday status update.
- Name the sheet.
- List rows due this week and overdue rows.
- Summarize by owner.
Intended outputA draft status update tied to named rows.
Use case 02
Find blocked work
A lead wants to know what is stuck.
- Search sheets for a blocked status.
- Group results by project.
- List the last update date for each.
Intended outputA list of blocked items to follow up.
A concrete starting point
Illustrative prompt: weekly status
Naming one sheet and forbidding edits keeps the task small and read-only.
Using the Smartsheet MCP server, open the sheet I name and list rows due in the next 7 days and rows already overdue, grouped by the Assigned To column. Quote the row names exactly and do not edit any rows. What this can change
Sheet data enters the AI host and its model provider. Write tools can change rows if allowed.
This example has not been executed for this review. Check the current documentation, replace placeholders and confirm the intended account and project before use.
Before you start
Setup and access.
What you’ll need
- A Smartsheet Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management plan.
- Access to a Smartsheet production environment in the matching region.
- A Smartsheet API token, unless your AI tool supports Smartsheet OAuth.
- Authentication
- Smartsheet API token, or OAuth in supported AI tools.
- Can read
- Sheets, reports and related data the account can access
- Can write or change
- Sheet changes where the server's tools and account permissions allow
- Network and data flow
- Smartsheet regional services
- AI host/model provider
- Approval and control
- Account permissions apply; keep host approval on for any tool that changes sheets.
Check your environment
Compatibility, costs and license.
Compatibility notes
- Regional endpoints for US, EU and AU
- OAuth only in the AI tools Smartsheet lists; API token elsewhere
- Manual configuration documented for other MCP clients
Costs and account requirements
Requires a Business, Enterprise or Advanced Work Management plan.

Concerns and limitations.
Token carries the user's full access
An API token acts with the user's full permissions. Use a dedicated account or store the token carefully.
Wrong region, wrong data
Each region has its own server. Connect to the region where your data lives.
Where it may fall short
- Only the US endpoint's response to an unauthenticated request was checked.
- The endpoint advertised no OAuth discovery to an unauthenticated request.
Observed behavior · 2026-10-18
Runtime and security findings.
The US endpoint rejected credential-free initialization with HTTP 401 but returned no WWW-Authenticate header and an empty body, so no OAuth discovery was advertised.
These checks cover the conditions below. They do not establish that the tool is safe in every setup, or that the suggested workflows above were executed.
What we found
Observed in this evaluation · low severity under stated conditions
No authentication discovery on rejection
The 401 response carried no WWW-Authenticate header or resource metadata link, so generic OAuth-capable clients cannot discover sign-in from it.
In practice: Use an API token or one of the AI tools Smartsheet documents as supporting its OAuth.
Version, environment and fixture
- Version or deployment
- Remote deployment version not disclosed by the observed responses
- Tested target

- Artifact identity
- HTTPS certificate verification enabled. Initialization response body SHA-256: e3b0c44298fc1c149afbf4c8996fb92427ae41e4649b934ca495991b7852b855. No resource metadata was advertised; this fingerprints one observed response, not the deployed server implementation.
- Environment and fixture
- Debian Linux x86_64 (kernel 6.12) evaluation box; Python 3.13.5 urllib; OpenSSL 3.5.7.
- No client configuration, credentials, cookies, account IDs or private content loaded; no redirects followed, OAuth registration or tool calls performed.

- One request per listed check; 20-second timeout and 64-KiB response cap. Raw timestamps are UTC; review date October 18, 2026.

- Without a credential, the documented endpoint rejects initialization.
- Observed
- HTTP 401 at 2026-10-19T05:52:12.430119+00:00. No WWW-Authenticate header. Empty response body.
Practical caveats
- Plan requirements apply.
- Choose the server for your data region.
What this evaluation does not establish
- API-token and OAuth access, regional endpoints and plan enforcement.
- Sheet reads, row edits, report access and prompt-injection resistance.
- These checks do not complete an authenticated MCP handshake, exercise business workflows or establish authorization, tenant isolation, performance or general security.

The basis for this review
Why it’s in the collection.
First-party and useful for teams already on Smartsheet; plan requirements and token-based setup for many clients narrow its fit.
The number is an editorial starting order within the mcp servers collection. It does not measure popularity, speed, reliability or safety.
