Color & backgrounds / Live color and typography preview
Realtime Colors
See a palette in page context, then export its color roles for a more useful design handoff.
Understand the resource
What it is.
Realtime Colors applies text, background, primary, secondary and accent colors to an example website as you work. It also exposes typography controls and export formats, so the output can become the start of a token discussion. The example page supplies context for comparison; it is not a tested replacement for your own product’s content and states.
When it is useful
Use it when a palette looks convincing in isolation but a team cannot picture its distribution across headings, buttons and surfaces. It is also helpful for explaining the difference between a collection of colors and a set of assigned UI roles.
A proposed application
Put it to work.
This example illustrates a possible use. The proposed workflow and expected result are separate from the bounded checks recorded below.
Try this
Set a proposed primary action color to #1E40AF, keep a light background and inspect headings, buttons and supporting surfaces together. Export the CSS variables, then map them to your application’s semantic tokens and separately test focus, error and disabled states.
Result to aim for
A reviewable palette in context and a small CSS starting point, with explicit work remaining for semantic tokens and accessibility.
Before you start
What you need.
- A browser for the public preview.
- A CSS or design-token workflow if you want to use the exported values.
- Separate review of font permissions and the final application’s accessibility.
The practical boundaries
What to watch for.
- The page’s pricing cards and testimonials are explicitly demonstration content. They should not be read as verified customer evidence or actual plan details.
- The publisher permits use of generated colors, while the repository’s website code and materials carry a CC BY-NC-ND license. Do not treat palette export as permission to clone or relicense the website.
- Check contrast with the actual text size, background and component state. A simple status light is not a complete readability or accessibility assessment.
- Share links include palette and font choices in their URL. Treat those links as public design references and keep confidential information out of inputs.
Review record
What we could establish.
- Why included — 2026-10-19: the homepage reports more than 300,000 users, and the linked repository had 935 stars in the GitHub API snapshot. The user count is a publisher claim; neither signal establishes current trend growth, and the repository’s last push was dated 3 October 2023.
- Changing the visible primary HEX field updated the CSS variable and share URL; the CSS export displayed the chosen value. The Figma plugin, font installation, file downloads and other exports were not tested.
The source-review notes describe documentation and identity. The account-free evaluation below records exactly which public interaction or local fixture was checked, what happened, and what remains untested.
Check current access, terms, licensing and data handling before using a resource with your own material.
Runtime and security evaluation
What the evaluation covers.
A synthetic primary color changed the visible picker value, CSS variable and share URL; the CSS export displayed the same value. The tool still made third-party requests under the account-free guard.
Methods: Public HTTP response · Public browser sample · Source review. A completed check covers the stated sample; it is not a safety certification.
- Target
- https://www.realtimecolors.com/
- Version or capture
- Unversioned public hosted page sampled on 2026-10-19; no installed package version attested.
- Integrity scope
- Recorded document SHA-256 13d027c8f2249e33ced4d1453f608b0dd12654887bc4138881f6c7354db61824. This is the HTML response only, not an integrity guarantee for scripts, dependencies or the whole service.
Test conditions
- Fresh anonymous Chromium 155.0.8059.82 context on Windows; 1365 × 900 viewport; reduced motion requested.
- GET and HEAD only; non-GET methods and WebSockets blocked. No owner browser session, account, credentials, private fixtures, uploads or purchases.
- Only the named public controls and synthetic values were used. Screenshots and compact request observations were retained as review evidence.
Individual checks and observations
Public document response
passPublic HTTP response: Navigate to the recorded public target in a fresh anonymous browser.
Observed: The sampled document returned HTTP 200 over HTTPS. Its response body SHA-256 was 13d027c8f2249e33ced4d1453f608b0dd12654887bc4138881f6c7354db61824; this fingerprints only the recorded HTML response.
Change the primary role
passPublic browser sample: Open the visible Primary picker and enter #1e40af in its HEX field.
Observed: The primary value and --primary CSS variable became #1e40af, and the palette share URL changed to include 1e40af.
Inspect CSS export
passPublic browser sample: Open the export panel with Ctrl+E after the color change.
Observed: The visible CSS output included --primary: #1e40af; alongside the other four role values. No download or clipboard read was performed.
Primary-source scope review
passSource review: Read the official pages and relevant repository or standard references linked below.
Observed: Reviewed the role-based preview, publisher-reported use, documentation and the website repository’s CC BY-NC-ND license. Generated colors and website source reuse were treated as separate scopes.
Broader workflow and assurance coverage
not-runPublic browser sample: Keep authenticated, installation, private-data and broader accessibility workflows outside this bounded pass.
Observed: No plugin, local font installation, downloaded archive, full contrast-engine validation, account workflow or repository execution was tested. Initial attempts targeted a hidden input; the final check used the visible HEX control.
Security findings and boundaries
Passive observation of the sampled public pages, response headers and request destinations, plus the specific documented boundaries below. No intrusive scanning or security certification.
Observed · caution
Network activity despite account-free editing
The confirmed sample requested 10 origins, including Google font/tag resources and other services. Two analytics POST requests were blocked. The footer’s no-cookies wording should not be read as no external network activity.
Observed · caution
Share URLs expose design choices
The chosen synthetic color appeared in the URL’s colors parameter. Shared links therefore reveal those palette choices and may be retained in browser or service logs.
Documented · caution
Palette export and code reuse differ
The website FAQ permits generated color use, while its linked website-code license is CC BY-NC-ND. Review the actual material and terms before copying or republishing site code.
Practical caveats
- Use the exported values as a starting point for semantic tokens and separately test application states.
- The generic pricing and imaginary testimonial sections are visual samples, not product-plan or customer-evidence sources.
What remains untested
- No plugin, local font installation, downloaded archive, full contrast-engine validation, account workflow or repository execution was tested. Initial attempts targeted a hidden input; the final check used the visible HEX control.
- One browser, one viewport and a short observation window; no cross-browser, assistive-technology or complete accessibility audit.
- Proposed use-case examples in this review were not implemented as a production workflow.
Security limits
- No backend, authenticated authorization, session isolation, vulnerability exploitation, dependency scan or account-data retention assessment was performed.
- The GET/HEAD-only guard can change hosted behavior; blocked background traffic is reported rather than treated as a product defect. Request observations are a bounded sample, not proof of all data handling.
