Brand & assets / SVG icon library and framework packages
Lucide
Give interface actions a consistent visual vocabulary without turning icons into the only explanation.
Understand the resource
What it is.
Lucide is an SVG icon collection with packages for several UI frameworks and a direct JavaScript replacement API. Its consistent outline treatment makes it useful for navigation, controls and status indicators that need to feel like one system. You can select the icons your application actually uses and control dimensions, color and stroke. The library supplies shapes; it does not decide whether a symbol is understandable, whether a button has a name or what a status means.
When it is useful
Use it when a product has accumulated mismatched icons or a new interface needs a small, reusable set of action symbols. Establish semantic names such as export or retry in your design system, then map those names to selected icons so a later visual change does not alter the task vocabulary.
A proposed application
Put it to work.
This example illustrates a possible use. The proposed workflow and expected result are separate from the bounded checks recorded below.
Try this
Proposed workflow: standardize a review toolbar with Download, Retry and More actions. Pair visible text with the primary actions; give any icon-only control its own accessible name and focus treatment. Import only the selected icon data and define a visible fallback for unknown names. The fixture used a synthetic Confirm button, not this toolbar.
Result to aim for
A small icon map with consistent rendering and explicit text, focus and missing-icon behavior.
Before you start
What you need.
- Choose the package for the actual framework or the plain JavaScript API, and pin its version.
- Keep accessible names on controls and hide purely decorative icons from assistive technology.
- Preserve the shipped license notices: ISC, plus the listed Feather-derived icons’ MIT notice.
The practical boundaries
What to watch for.
- An unavailable icon name left its placeholder in place in the fixture; the library did not create a visible fallback.
- The tested native button supplied its own accessible name. That result is not evidence that an unlabeled SVG is an accessible control.
- The full global bundle was used to make the fixture self-contained; bundle-size and tree-shaking claims were not measured.
Review record
What we could establish.
- Why included (2026-10-19): a popular shared icon vocabulary with framework options and clear consumer responsibilities around labels and missing names. GitHub lucide-icons/lucide showed 25,145 stars; the inspected default-branch commit was dated 2026-10-19. This is one adoption/activity snapshot, not evidence of trend growth or safety.
- The proposed workflow above is an application idea. Executed checks and untested boundaries are stated separately in the evaluation.
The source-review notes describe documentation and identity. The account-free evaluation below records exactly which public interaction or local fixture was checked, what happened, and what remains untested.
Check current access, terms, licensing and data handling before using a resource with your own material.
Runtime and security evaluation
What the evaluation covers.
Lucide 1.59.0 replaced a known icon, honored size/stroke settings and avoided duplication on a second initialization. An unknown name remained a placeholder. The authored Confirm button retained its name while the decorative SVG stayed hidden.
Methods: Local package fixture · Source review. A completed check covers the stated sample; it is not a safety certification.

Test conditions
- Chromium 155.0.8059.82; fresh disposable browser context, no account state or ambient credential variables.
- Synthetic inputs only; no uploads, purchases, accounts or private data.
- Pinned extracted assets/modules; browser HTTP(S) and WebSocket requests denied. No install/lifecycle scripts; no process-wide Node egress guarantee.
Individual checks and observations
Icon replacement and dimensions
passLocal package fixture: Replace a known Check placeholder with named icon data
Observed: {"count":1,"after":1,"viewBox":"0 0 24 24","width":"32","stroke":"1.5","hidden":"true","unknownRetained":true}
Repeat initialization
passLocal package fixture: Initialize icons a second time and count SVGs
Observed: {"before":1,"after":1}
Unknown-name boundary
passLocal package fixture: Include an unavailable icon name
Observed: Unknown icon placeholder remains; this is not a visible fallback or validation error.
Decorative icon label boundary
passLocal package fixture: Inspect authored parent label and propagated hidden attribute
Observed: Authored button label remains Confirm; decorative SVG is hidden. Semantic labeling belongs to the consumer.
Framework-specific behavior
not-runLocal package fixture: Render icons through framework packages
Observed: Only the plain JavaScript bundle was used; framework rendering and hydration were not tested.
Security findings and boundaries
Manifest/license and selected entry/source inspection, plus the named synthetic local fixture. No active exploitation or full security audit.
Observed · caution
Unknown icon names need an application fallback
The missing-name fixture retained its original placeholder. Validate icon identifiers and provide a readable fallback rather than assuming every requested name will render.
Observed · caution
Control semantics come from the wrapper
The fixture supplied the button element, Confirm label and decorative hidden attribute. The passing label check covers that composition, not every use of Lucide.
Documented · caution
Keep the complete notice file
The upstream license combines ISC terms with MIT notices for identified Feather-derived icons. Retain the complete applicable notices with redistributed assets.
Observed · info
Pinned sample and network boundary
The fetched archive matched its registry SHA-512. The selected fixture made zero outbound attempts under an HTTP/WebSocket deny rule. No package lifecycle scripts executed; this does not audit all package code or dependencies.
Practical caveats
- Map product actions to a small approved icon set and keep essential labels visible.
- Review stroke weight, contrast, target size and meaning at the actual display size.
What remains untested
- One named Check icon, one unknown name and the plain JavaScript initialization API.
- No React/Vue package runtime, whole-catalog SVG inspection, screen-reader session, contrast audit or bundle-size measurement.
Security limits
- No React/Vue package runtime, whole-catalog SVG inspection, screen-reader session, contrast audit or bundle-size measurement.
- No complete dependency/vulnerability audit, authenticated data access, server authorization, retention or production security certification.
