Brand & assets / App-icon reference
Icon Museum
Study how app icons communicate identity at a compact size.
Understand the resource
What it is.
Icon Museum is a gallery of app icons with public search and links to individual app entries. It is useful for studying how a product communicates identity in a compact image; app branding is a different problem from choosing functional interface glyphs.
When it is useful
You are exploring a recognizable app or PWA icon.
A proposed application
Put it to work.
This example illustrates a possible use. The proposed workflow and expected result are separate from the bounded checks recorded below.
Try this
Inspect original creator references, then test your own icon at home-screen and small notification sizes.
Result to aim for
An original icon direction informed by scale and context.
Before you start
What you need.
- A browser and original artwork for a finished app icon.
- Check the source creator's rights before reusing any reference image.
The practical boundaries
What to watch for.
- Gallery images are not automatically licensed production assets.
- An attractive app icon does not establish recognizability at every size or accessible treatment in the surrounding interface.
Review record
What we could establish.
- Public search for Comet surfaced a matching Comet – AI Browser & Assistant entry. No email subscription, original asset download or individual app-detail workflow was exercised.
The source-review notes describe documentation and identity. The account-free evaluation below records exactly which public interaction or local fixture was checked, what happened, and what remains untested.
Check current access, terms, licensing and data handling before using a resource with your own material.
Runtime and security evaluation
What the evaluation covers.
Public search surfaced a matching Comet app entry. Subscription, downloads and individual entry details remain outside the sample.
Methods: Public HTTP response · Public browser sample · Source review. A completed check covers the stated sample; it is not a safety certification.
- Target
- https://icon.museum/
- Version or capture
- Unversioned public page observed 2026-10-19
- Integrity scope
- SHA-256 d62881fd0e61c0ea0a7d69b35fd6f3f3e585c3bc3d222d7aaf15b7a8ddef8f7d of one initial HTML response (3981 bytes). This does not fingerprint the entire application or its dependencies.
Test conditions
- Windows; Chrome 155.0.8059.82 headless via Playwright, fresh isolated contexts with a 1365 × 900 viewport.
- Reduced motion requested. GET/HEAD requests allowed; other methods and WebSocket connections blocked.
- No owner browser profile, account, credentials, purchase, upload, private fixture or service write.
Individual checks and observations
Public app search
passPublic browser sample: Open Search and enter the synthetic query Comet.
Observed: A matching Comet – AI Browser & Assistant suggestion linked to /apps/comet-ai-browser-assistant.
Subscription and asset use
not-runPublic browser sample: Subscribe by email or download/reuse a gallery image.
Observed: No email, account or image-transfer workflow was submitted.
Security findings and boundaries
Public search with a nonprivate query and passive page/network observations.
Observed · info
Gallery and asset hosts
The sampled page requested icon.museum, assets.icon.museum and Cloudflare-related resources. No email or private input was entered.
Practical advice · caution
Use references without inheriting their identity
Treat the gallery as a way to study composition and recognition; build original artwork and establish rights for any reused material.
Practical caveats
- The background gallery remains in the DOM during search; its link count is not a count of search results.
- App-icon inspiration does not replace testing at small sizes or against neighboring icons.
What remains untested
- One search suggestion was sampled; no app-detail, subscription, download or reuse-license audit.
- No comprehensive keyboard, screen-reader, source-code or backend assessment.
Security limits
- Passive public-page observations and the stated bounded sample only; no exploitation, authenticated authorization, backend, retention or comprehensive dependency audit.
- Request blocking changes application behavior; no secure/safe certification is implied.
